- “Life Is Just|A Ride. Grab A Seat.” ~ Bill Hicks US Comic
When summer arrives, the use of a backyard increases. This is due to the fact that most individuals do not like staying inside when the weather is so beautiful. If you are one of those individuals, it is likely that you and your family will be spending a fairly large amount of time outside. To make your time memorable and enjoyable, you may want to consider familiarizing yourself with popular backyard activities, especially those that are designed with the whole family in mind.
“Kids are not only the most obese in paedeatric history some are diagnosed with DVT”
Deep Vein Thrombosis in a 13 yr old? What does he get when he leaves school, an electric scooter?
This scary headline comes as no surprise. We live in a sedentary world for kids. Yet, I heard from a nurse friend that the children’s haemorrhoid condition is quite common too! Imagine your child having to sit on Grandmas giant foam polo mint through their SATS? Will teenagers soon qualify for Saga holidays and have Sir Cliff Richard as a pinup? Will they do the Conga on the way to school and get tangled in each others catheters?
Why don’t lorry drivers get DVT? They all smoke and eat down the “Greasy Spoon.” Copious hours on the M25. Is it just sheer will power? The same will power that makes you sit, endlessly behind a gutless hunk of junk, that fails to overtake another gutless hunk of junk and helps you slip into a coma.
Now why is this happening? I blame “The Lord of the Rings”.
What? I hear you say, don’t you like historic films? Three hours of movie that’s what! I went to see the first one and when it finished I was like The ‘Tinman’ from “The Wizard of Oz”, when he was first discovered by Dorothy. I was stiffer than week old roadkill. I found trying to get up out of the cinema seat after the gruelling duration like my clothes were made of Velcro. A grunt was all I could mange as I tried to overwhelm gravity as I got up with the lights and credits, as my unforgiving scrunchy knees and creaking backs disallowed any free movement whatsoever. I looked the expressions of chaperoning parents leaving the hall and they too had faces not dissimilar to that of Lazarus awaking from his crypt.
Although it was a ‘moving’ film it was not natural for kids to be ‘stationary’ for so long. Kids take more exercise in their sleep these days.
When attending marathon movies in future, take my tip. If your child has all the symptoms of ‘attention deficit syndrome’ why not, for the next fantasy blockbuster take homework and a clip-on book-light for the boring bits. Or, make then sit there and hold both your pints of lager. Only promise to take one off them and drink it, if they stop fidgeting.
Post office queues are another reason we have hardening of the arteries. Individuals were not even eligible for their pension before they joined the queue. We Brits love to queue. If we were to be shot before dawn we would be very polite and ,say, “Please, after you!”
We sit endlessly in Planes, Trains and Automobiles most of our waking lives. We sit in Doctors surgeries and dentist waiting rooms. We have treadmills, when ‘running on the spot’ was once thought just as good for you.
One activity that everyone enjoys is eating. Whether it be breakfast, lunch, or dinner, you may want to consider having your next meal outside. If you have a barbeque grill, you and your family may enjoy having tasty food that was prepared on the grill. If you do not have a grill, but are interested in purchasing one, you have a number of options. A large number of retail stores, both on and offline, carry a fairly large selection of barbeque grills.
In addition to having a backyard barbeque, your family may also enjoy a backyard picnic. Backyard picnics are often easier to prepare than most barbequed meals. If you wish, you could easily prepare all of your food inside. Popular picnic foods may include, but should not be limited to, sandwiches, subs, coleslaw, salads, crackers, cookies, and pretzels. If the weather is warm, you may also want to make sure that you include extra water. Water, especially during hot weather, is important for hydration.
Food Can Poison or Purify. How do you View it?
We wonder why we get furred up veins inside children? The food we give our offspring contains more ‘E’s’ than an illegal rave party!
It’s a fact that our food is so toxic that debilitating diseases usually associated with old people now effect our kids. When are we
going to stop putting poison in food just so it gets more ‘shelf life’? Why is it only loose fresh fruit and vegetables have a ‘best before’ date? Not content with this. They now have a ‘display’ date. To make sure we can’t sue them. So, what we have is children’s ‘pack-up lunch’ for school looking more like fairground novelties.
‘Cheese Dippers’, ‘Mini-pizzas’, “Squishers with bacon bits and semi-synthetic PVA” etc, are advertised as ‘cool’ for children. The children buy the idea and Mum buys the product just to shut them up. Such ‘Dunk in the Junk’ snacks should be banned because they are so full of starch and sugar you can hang wallpaper with it.
Off course ‘an apple a day’ or regular ham sandwich is called ‘plain boring’. Not as boring though as having your legs amputated, or being diagnosed with thrombosis before you leave school thought , is it?
If our skin was ‘shrink-wrap’ and we could see what was going on we what sugar addiction does to our circulation and if we hurt
ourselves no one would notice if we were bleeding.
Food values are replacing the actual food on our plate and almost unrecognisable. Let me illustrate. Some cereals with gimmicks and giveaways are so full of salt that if you took what salt there is in the packet, out, and fed your children with it, they would die. Proving to health conscious parents that salt doesn’t ‘cure’ anything. Two tablespoons of salt is enough to kill a child.
OK, I’ve had bash at food manufacturers! Back to eating as a social ‘activity’.
While eating outdoors is a great way to spend time in your backyard, it will only take a few hours. If you are interested in spending the whole day in your backyard, you will want to find other backyard activities. One of those activities is likely to include swimming. Swimming is a favorite summer pastime, for individuals of all ages. The only downside to swimming is that you must have a swimming pool. If you do not have a swimming pool and cannot afford to purchase one, do not worry.
Use a sprinkler!! It’s a heap of laughs. You can create games like. “Who jumps the highest!” “Cross the Poison waterfall Blindfolded!” “Egg on Spoon Dash” “Piggy in The Puddle” There are literally an unlimited number of other backyard activities that your whole family could enjoy, even without a pool.
Water games, like many other backyard games, are ideal for individuals of all ages. To cool off or just participate in a family fun activity, you can purchase a water sprinkler, water balloons, or water guns. Many of these items can be purchased for an affordable price at most, on and offline, retailers.
If sports are more your family’s style, you may want to examine purchasing a volleyball net or a basketball hoop. While a basketball hoop or a volleyball net may be an expensive purchase, it is likely that you and your children will enjoy them on more than one occasion. If you are concerned with the cost of a basketball hoop, volleyball net, or other sports equipment, you can purchase cheaper alternatives. Other popular sports games, which do not require the purchase of expensive equipment, may include kickball or softball.
- Activity is a gift to a healthy long life and is good for the soul.
Spending the day in your backyard is a great to not only have fun, but to spend quality time with your family. A backyard campout may be the perfect end to the perfect day. Camping is enjoyed by many. Backyard camping is great, especially if you have small children. Not only may they enjoy the new experience, but you will also be close to you home if something goes wrong. For a reasonable price, if you don’t already have one, you should be able to purchase a tent and other camping supplies.
As you can see, there are a large number of backyard activities that your whole family may be able to enjoy. In fact, the above mentioned activities are just a few of the many that are available. For additional activities, you may want to ask the rest of your family for suggestions. It is possible that they may alert you to a fun backyard activity that you never even heard of before.
Children are active. Many children participate in a number of different after school activities, including sports. Unfortunately, when school ends, there are many children that do not know what to do. If you are the parent of a school aged child, who is currently on summer vacation, you may want to encourage them to go outdoors and play. In fact, many children don’t think about it, but there are literally an unlimited number of benefits to being outside.
Regardless of your child’s age, it is important to get outside. Whether they enjoy relaxing by the pool or playing sports, they can benefit from the great outdoors. To enjoy the outdoors, you and your child don’t even have to leave your backyard. With a wide variety of different outdoor activities available, it is likely that they will never have a dull moment.
As previously mentioned, there are literally an unlimited number of benefits to playing in your own backyard. Perhaps, one of the greatest benefits is that your child will be able to get exercise. Getting outside and moving around is a great way to burn calories and stay fit. While all activities burn calories, there are a number of popular backyard activities that burn more than others. Those activities may include swimming, basketball, or volleyball.
- Fun and Games To feel Great!
Depending on the age of your child, being outside may help them develop a love for the outdoors. By encouraging your child to play outside, at an early age, you may be preparing them for a lifetime of outdoor fun. It is best to take your child outside to play when they are young, but it is never too late. No matter what the age of your child, you should regularly take them outside or encourage them to play in the backyard.
In addition to teaching your child to enjoy the outdoors, taking them outside may also be educational. Many young children, especially toddlers, love to explore. Together, you could explore everything that your backyard has to offer. To add extra excitement to your nature expeditions, you may want to consider purchasing books or resource guides on bugs, plants, flowers, or birds. They may help turn a traditional backyard activity into something that they will never forget.
